A Monster Hunting Work In Progress
JASON TAGMIRE // APRIL 3, 2026
Jason here with a little preview of what’s next from PNP Arcade Publishing. We’re always working on something here, and lately it’s been wrapping up the final sheets for Battle Pages, continuing our weekly releases of Dungeon Pages Underboss, and for the past few months, it’s been working on our new game.
If you’ve played any of our games you’ll know this already, but if you haven’t, here’s a quick overview:
The Old Games
Our Dungeon Pages series are single sheet adventure style roll and write games with weekly releases. Each game can be cut and combined with any previously released version. We also have Battle Pages, which is named similarly, but is quite different in style. And Coin Pusher, which is more of a standalone arcade style game. Both of these are roll and write as well.
The New Game
In anticipation of our new game, we wanted to look at starting a new model. Still PNP only, still some dice, but not roll and write. This time, we wanted to replace the permanency of writing with some cubes that can be managed throughout the game.
We settled on a familiar theme. You are part of a crew of monster hunters, trying to remove the nightly threats. Along with the big bad enemy, there are authorities getting in your way, and other big events to deal with. The game uses dice to determine where the threats arrive, as well as the locations you choose to visit each night. The cubes help track everything, but also represent the innocent people that you are saving.
Design Details
One of my favorite parts of the design so far is a dice mechanic where you roll 3 dice, and place these to represent your activity for the night. You can place them on a matching location number and gain the ability for that location immediately, or place them anywhere to deal with the threats and/or save the innocents. All of the abilities help you do those things better, so spreading out your 3 dice can be really helpful. But spreading out also reduces your assets a bit, as each die value contributes to the total needed to rescue an innocent or defeat the threat. And finally the authorities will lock down a random location each turn, so the more you spread out, the riskier things get.
We’re still testing and tinkering with the gameplay balance, but also the product model. We’re looking at a window of time where we release a new card each week. Instead of releasing a full sheet it would just be a single card, which in this game is a hero, monster, event, set of items, or a set of locations. Replacing any one of those would change up the gameplay considerably.
And finally, we have a title! With the weekly releases in place, and the potential for other games to follow this format, we have decided on The Weekly Haunt. We’ll keep you in the loop as we go (and soon enough we’re going to be looking for some testers too). Let us know if this one is up your alley!
In the meantime, we have a Kickstarter prelaunch page if you’d like to follow along there: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jasongreeno/theweeklyhaunt
Each week we share the new releases in the world of Print and Play. Here’s what’s new this week.
From the Publisher: Scattered Nexus: Solis War is a love letter to battle card games and indie comics. Combine three factions featuring characters from real life indie comics and battle your way across the multiverse.
Wow—this game is firing on all cylinders! They’ve got the lane battler thing going on like SNAP and there own indie comic universes to pull heroes from. Supports 1-4 players with co-op and competitive modes.
Dungeon Pages: Underboss - Vilsa LaPree: The year-long set has been updated with the newest boss and dungeon. One of two gorgons from the original Dungeon Pages series who you can play as in the new game. When this lady has a bad week, better watch out! Link.
Battle Pages - Kingdom of Gallisen Marching Order 2: This is it folks! The last kingdom in the year-long Battle Pages series. The Demon Lord has arrived and its up to you to field an army that can repel the evil forces. Each month introduces a new sheet, but each week changes up the enemy’s marching order to push you to try out new strategies. Link.

How to Make Laminated Playing Cards
Want that real card shuffle and snap? Martin’s got a great tutorial on crafting laminated cards for durability and a slick look.
Here are a few PNP-related crowdfunding campaigns that we thought you might find interesting:
From the Publisher: ByteShift is a competitive, single-page Roll & Write where you draft and combine program elements to build the most efficient hacking routine.
You roll dice to draft program elements from randomized tables, then write your “code” onto virtual floppy disks, card-crafting your way to the cleanest, smartest hack while trying to outsmart your opponent (or the system in solo mode).
Once you’ve crafted your full routine, you execute it from back to front, chaining effects for maximum efficiency and scoring —aiming to rack up more points than your opponent by the time the run is complete.
Not only a cool-looking game but also debuting a ‘pagepunk’ approach that allows players to print out their own custom game sheets—cool! The campaign is active until April 16th so if this good to you, be sure to back now.
From the publisher: 100 Little Word Dungeons (Joe Shimwell) is a collection of hand-drawn print and play puzzles built around a single core mechanic: place words on the map, connect each one to the last, and spell your way through a tiny dungeon to the exit. Each puzzle takes five to fifteen minutes, fits on half a sheet of paper, and brings something new: a different layout, a different challenge, a different twist. Some are gentle warm-ups. Some are brutal. All of them are drawn by hand, one corridor at a time.
I DO LOVE a dungeon roll & write. I’ve also been known to win my fair share of Scrabble / Crossplay / Boggle games, so this might be the perfect game for me. This one’s easy to check out as the publisher has given us a free demo to try!
